A Guide to ESO Raiding & Raid Leading
As you progress through the Elder Scrolls Online leveling your character, completing the various Zones & Quests and Dungeons & Delves, battling Bosses and finding materials you finally reach level 50 and start the long walk to CP630. For a while you advance your interest in the new content available from level 45-50+ such as Daily Undaunted Pledges, Veteran Dungeons, Normal Time Trials, farming Monster sets & practicing Maelstrom Arena.
At some point your going to reach a Champion Point rank where your comfortable doing Veteran Time Trials. I’d recommend this being at around CP300. At CP300 you will have roughly 75% of the stats of a CP630 player. The remaining 330 Champion points after CP300 do not increase attribute points & give medium/small gains.
So, how do you get involved in Time Trials & how do you start your own Time Trials.
What are Time trials?
Time Trials are the Elder Scrolls Online’ solo, 4-player & 12-player group content. When completed your character is given a score. Each Time Trial has it’s own Leaderboard and groups compete to gain the top scores on both the Weekly & All-time leaderboards. All current ESO Time Trials are listed below:
Preparing for Time Trials
Being Prepared before joining Time Trials is important. You want to be as useful as you can to your team in your selected roles. Completing other content before starting Time Trials such as Veteran Dungeons & Maelstrom Arena both get you prepared mentally for game mechanics & physically by giving you weapons & armor you can use in Time Trials.
Equipment & Supplies
Weapons & Armor for Time Trials is changing on a patch-by-patch basis.
For Tanks you will want to farm Maw of Lorkhaj and Crypt of Hearts to collect your Roar of Alkosh & Ebon Armory sets.
For Healers it’s White Gold Tower, Vaults of Madness and Aetherian Archive to collect your Spell Power Cure, Worm’s Raiment & Mending sets.
Damage Dealers are farming Maw of Lorkhaj and Craglorn veteran time trials to collect either Moondancer, Alkosh or Vicious Ophidian. As well as farming City of Ash for the Burning Spellweave set, Maelstrom Arena holds alot of weapons to collect.
If you’ve joined a random zone chat or pick-up group for a veteran time trial then it may require some time to complete. Make sure you have the following supplies before joining a raid.
200x Grand Soul Gems
200x Essence of Spell Power/Weapon Power/Tristat potions
7x Repair Kits
5x Food Buff
Also check that your Mundus Stone, Champion points & Vampirism level are set correct.

Combat Metrics (http://www.esoui.com/downloads/info1360-CombatMetrics.html)
Combat Metrics is an addon to track your fights. You can use it to measure your DPS, you can analyse which skills make your DPS or who caused your incoming damage. You can also analyse the heals you received or cast. You can check which buffs and debuffs were running, how much magicka or stamina per second you used and regenerated.

Finding a Time Trial group
Starting out you need to find yourself a group that is in the progress of looking for more (LFM) players for a trial run.
Zone chat is the most obvious place for a new player to find groups, they’ve been finding groups there already for daily undaunted pledges and maybe even veteran dungeons. These groups might be fairly quick for normal time trials but it is hit & miss for veteran time trials organized from zone chat. From my own experience i’ve found Craglorn to be the best zone to find people searching for more players for trials.
Joining a Community PvE or PvE & PvP guild is a better way to find players for Time Trials. Players from guilds have more boundaries to adhere to so there is more of an impulse to be sociable, useful and participate. These Guilds are usually gateways to other types of Guilds such as Raiding & Progression Guilds. They focus solely on PvE Time Trials and their motivation is to get high scores or the highest scores in all Trials.
Creating a Veteran Time Trial group
1) Deciding on a Trial & Roles
First decide which Time Trial you want to run. They each have separate suggested group role setups which are listed below.
Aetherian Archive & Hel ra Citadel – 1 Tank 2 Healers 9 DDs
Sanctum Ophidia & Maw of Lorkhaj – 2 Tanks 2 Healers 8 DDs
All Hardmodes – 2 Tanks 2 Healers 8 DDs
It is a good idea to have at least 4 Ranged Damage Dealers in each group, this is just a suggestion.
In Veteran Maw of Lorkhaj it is useful to have 2 Magicka DKs (or 2 Tanks) with Chains+Deep Breath.
2) Voice Communication
Elder Scrolls Online does not have it’s own built-in voice communication so many Raiding Guilds, Progression Guilds & Community Guilds either use Teamspeak 3, Discord, Ventrilo, or a Mumble server. The details are usually in the Message of the Day or Background Information.
Once you have a voice comms server you can use, make sure you have the details to hand as we now need to find 11 more players and give them those details.
3) Finding players
Community Guilds, Progression Guilds & Raiding Guilds have their own organized raiding times on certain days of the week where members signup for time trials. When organizing an unplanned raid in chat try to give people as much information as possible when writing your message.
LF11M 1 Tank 2 Healers 8 DDs for vAA – have ts3 /w
Which of course means ‘Looking for 11 more for Veteran Aetherian Archive. 1 Tank 2 Healers 8 Damage Dealers. Must have Teamspeak 3. Whisper me.’
- Start posting your message in all your PvE Guild’ chats and give it 15-20 minutes to see how many you can collect.
- Keep re-posting your message with your new requirements every 5 minutes.
- Expand your search; ask in the group you’ve collected if they have friends who could join.
- If you are missing Support roles (a Tank or Healer) see if someone in the group can change to that role. Finding a Damage Dealer might be easier.
It is almost essential that you have a way to at least listen to the other people in your group even if you cannot talk yourself. Just being there and being more informed about the Raid in general is enough. At certain times during the raids quick calls must be made, the group must split into teams, and other problems can occur that you wouldn’t otherwise be aware of or be able to react quickly enough without voice communication.
Anyone that joins the group give them the Voice comms details.
4) Organizing the Group
Once you have 12 players ready your going to want to do a Skills check, assign any special tasks and create any teams needed for splitting up during the time trial.
Sanctum Ophidia, Hel ra Citadel & Maw of Lorkhaj
Create 2 teams. 1 Tank 1 Healer 4 DDs in each group.
For Maw of Lorkhaj make sure 1 MagickaDK is in each group if you are using them.
Simulate positions everyone will be stood in for last boss. Use the fire pit in the entrance area as the Boss position & arrange stacks of DDs around the Boss in pairs of 2.
Next, using the 2 stone table close to the entrance door, split the group into 3 teams. Left, Middle & Right. Put mostly melee DDs on left side with 1 Healer, ranged DDs on right side with 1 Healer & Tank in the middle group.
Healers should have Elemental Drain, Combat Prayer, Orbs, Shards, Purge & Repentance
Tanks should have Igneous Shield, Talons, Rapid Maneuver, Chains & Deep Breath.
Depending on Time Trial/Situation.
You’ll want to let your group know/remind your group about what types of damage they’re expecting. Each Time Trial has a separate suggested Champion point setup for the Warrior tree to reduce incoming damage.
Aetherian Archive – Elemental Defender, Thick skinned & Spell Shield
Hel ra Citadel – Hardy & Elemental Defender
Sanctum Ophidia – Hardy, Thick skinned & Elemental Defender
Maw of Lorkhaj – Elemental Defender & Spell Shield
